Today we kicked off another series of workshops within the course of Presents of the Future. As part of the cultural program of the 2017 Maltese Presidency of the Council of the European Union with the support of Arts Council Malta and the Valletta 2018 Foundation we are excited to experience Changeist facilitating a multi-day workshop exploring possible futures circulating around citizenship / identity, belonging / communities and migration / immigration.
A set of questions to frame where these following days should be heading to, were introduced. These should help us communicate stories about possible futures of citizenship and belonging in Europe.
- How, in the future, could Europe extend what’s best about it to others around the world?
- How can it provide growth, shelter, opportunity?
- What might it look like?
- What might be the artefacts that depict it?
As a first step, we collected influential and shaping aspects – considered as relevant for the future development of citizenship and belonging – and assigned them their (subjective) probability, plausibility or possibility in a timeline until 2030.
A diverse range of trends, drivers and events have been gathered, building the basis for the follow-up step which included some first sketches and ideas of possible scenarios, some stories about how these future world would feel and function.
