Floating Village, a long-term project initiated by Leo Schatzl four years ago, takes another implementation phase. In an experimental set up, a group of interested students and other practitioners will build a temporary floating village. This encampment an assortment of experimental vessels and floating bodies, bound together around a village square, an octagonal structure first designed as a tree platform.
The construction kick-off contained a few surprises, as pieces have gone missing. But a workshop is for building things, so we re-constructed the missing bits and looked at solutions of the parts never constructed. Parallel some old kayaks were transformed into a raft, a temporary toilet cabin was test assembled and knotting education, essential for all maritime endeavors, was undertaken.
